Usrushana
Usrushana was a historical region of Central Asia between Samarkand and Khujand, south of the Syr Darya, in modern northern Tajikistan. Ruled by local princes with the title afshin, it was conquered by the Abbasids in the early 9th century. Its best-known son was the general al-Afshin, who served the caliph al-Mu'tasim, and the Sajid dynasty also came from its military families.
