Vaballathus

r. 267–272 · 3rd century

Vaballathus was the son of Odaenathus and Zenobia of Palmyra, in whose name his mother ruled the Palmyrene Empire after his father's murder in 267. Under Zenobia's regency Palmyra took Egypt and much of Asia Minor, and in 272 Vaballathus was proclaimed Augustus. The emperor Aurelian defeated the Palmyrenes that year and captured Zenobia; the fate of Vaballathus is unknown.
