Valentina Visconti

1368–1408 · 14th century · Also known as Valentina Visconti, Duchess of Orléans

Valentina Visconti was a daughter of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, ruler of Milan, who married Louis, duke of Orléans, brother of Charles VI of France, in 1389. Her marriage contract named her as heir to Milan if the male Visconti line failed. Her grandson Louis XII of France used this claim to conquer the duchy in 1499, drawing France deeper into the Italian Wars.
