Varendra
Varendra is a historical region of northern Bengal between the Ganges and the Karatoya rivers, largely within the present Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh and the adjoining districts of West Bengal. It was the ancestral homeland of the Pala dynasty, lost to the Kaivarta rebels in the late eleventh century and recovered by Ramapala. Its higher, older alluvial ground is known as the Barind Tract.
