Varendra rebellion
The Varendra rebellion was a revolt of the Kaivartas, a community of boatmen and cultivators, against the Pala dynasty in northern Bengal in the late eleventh century. Under their leader Divya the rebels killed King Mahipala II and held Varendra, the Pala homeland, for a generation, until Ramapala recovered it with the help of allied chiefs, as told in the Ramacharita.
