Venta Silurum
Venta Silurum was the Roman town at Caerwent in south-east Wales, capital of the civitas of the Silures after their conquest in the 70s CE. It had a forum, basilica, temples and baths, and later strong stone walls that still stand. An inscription found there records the council of the Silures governing the town. The name of Gwent, the post-Roman kingdom of the region, derives from Venta.
