Venutius

fl. 50s–70s CE · 1st century

Venutius was a leader of the Brigantes of northern Britain and consort of Queen Cartimandua. After their divorce he led the anti-Roman faction against her, and in 69 he drove her out of the kingdom, taking advantage of Rome's civil war. His rebellion prompted the Roman conquest of the Brigantes under Petillius Cerialis from 71.
