Vijayapuri

3rd–4th century CE · 3rd century

Vijayapuri was the capital of the Ikshvaku dynasty in the lower Krishna valley of Andhra Pradesh, India, in the 3rd and 4th centuries CE. Excavations in the valley of Nagarjunakonda revealed its citadel, palaces, an amphitheatre, bathing ghats and many Buddhist monasteries and Brahmanical temples. The site was flooded by the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir in the 1960s after its principal monuments had been recorded and moved.
