Visayas
The Visayas are the central group of islands of the Philippines, between Luzon and Mindanao, including Panay, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte and Samar. Colonised by Spain from the 1560s, their coastal settlements suffered raids by fleets from the Sulu zone for more than two centuries, which led to the building of watchtowers and fortified churches.
