Walloon Flanders

Also known as Flandre wallonne

Walloon Flanders was the French-speaking southern part of the County of Flanders, made up of the castellanies of Lille, Douai and Orchies. Held by the French crown from 1312 to 1369, it returned to Flanders with the Burgundian marriage and joined the Union of Arras in 1579. Louis XIV conquered it, and its towns became French in 1668.
