Walwal incident
The Walwal incident was a clash on 5 December 1934 at the wells of Walwal in the Ogaden, between Ethiopian troops and the Italian colonial garrison, which had occupied the oasis inside Ethiopian territory. Italy demanded compensation and an apology, and the dispute, taken to the League of Nations, became the Abyssinia Crisis. Mussolini used it as a pretext for the invasion of Ethiopia in October 1935.
