War of the First Coalition
The War of the First Coalition (1792–1797) was the first of the French Revolutionary Wars, fought by revolutionary France against Austria, Prussia, Britain, Spain, the Dutch Republic, Sardinia and other states. After early setbacks France conquered the Austrian Netherlands and the Dutch Republic, and Prussia and Spain made peace in 1795. Napoleon Bonaparte's Italian campaign forced Austria to accept the Treaty of Campo Formio in 1797, leaving Britain alone at war.
