Wellington

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand, on Port Nicholson at the southern tip of the North Island. Founded by the New Zealand Company in 1840 and named after the Duke of Wellington, it replaced Auckland as the capital in 1865 because of its central position between the two main islands. It is the seat of Parliament and of the government.
