Windward Maroons
The Windward Maroons were the Maroon communities of eastern Jamaica, formed by Africans who escaped slavery and settled in the Blue Mountains and the John Crow Mountains. Led by figures such as Nanny and Quao, they resisted the British in the First Maroon War and made peace in 1739. Their descendants live in Moore Town, Charles Town and Scott's Hall.
