Wusun

2nd century BCE–5th century CE · 2nd century BCE

The Wusun were a nomadic people of Central Asia known from Chinese sources. Displaced from the Gansu region, they drove the Yuezhi from the Ili valley around 130 BCE and ruled the steppes of Zhetysu and the Tian Shan for several centuries, absorbing the Saka who remained there. The Han dynasty courted them as allies against the Xiongnu and sent Chinese princesses to marry their rulers.
