Years of Lead (Morocco)
The Years of Lead in Morocco were the decades of state repression under King Hassan II, from the 1960s to the late 1980s. Opponents, including leftists, Islamists, Sahrawis and suspected plotters after the coup attempts of 1971 and 1972, faced arrest, torture, disappearance and secret prisons such as Tazmamart. The Equity and Reconciliation Commission of 2004 investigated the abuses.
