Yeavering

Also known as Ad Gefrin

Yeavering, in Northumberland, England, is the site of Ad Gefrin, a royal residence of the 7th-century kings of Bernicia and Northumbria below the hillfort of Yeavering Bell. Excavations from 1953 revealed great timber halls and a wedge-shaped wooden grandstand for assemblies. Bede records that the missionary Paulinus baptised people in the River Glen there for 36 days around 627.
