Yola
Yola is a town in north-eastern Nigeria near the Benue River and the capital of Adamawa State. Modibbo Adama founded it in 1841 as the capital of the Adamawa Emirate, the large Fulani state that paid tribute to the Sokoto Caliphate. British forces took it in 1901, and the Lamido of Adamawa still reigns there.
