Ypres
Ypres (Ieper) is a city in West Flanders, Belgium. In the Middle Ages it was one of the three great cloth towns of the County of Flanders, with a vast Cloth Hall, and one of the Four Members of Flanders. In the First World War it lay at the centre of a salient that saw some of the war's heaviest fighting; the town was destroyed and rebuilt, and the Menin Gate commemorates the missing.
