Zagreb

Zagreb is the capital and largest city of Croatia, on the Sava river. It grew from two medieval settlements, the bishop's Kaptol, seat of a bishopric founded in 1094, and the royal free town of Gradec, which were united in 1850. Zagreb was the political centre of Croatia under Habsburg rule and became the capital of independent Croatia in 1991.
