Zariadres

2nd century BCE · 2nd century BCE

Zariadres was a general of the Seleucid king Antiochus III, appointed governor of Sophene around 200 BCE while his colleague Artaxias received Greater Armenia. After Rome defeated Antiochus in 190–189 BCE, both governors declared themselves independent kings, and Zariadres founded the line that ruled Sophene until its annexation by Tigranes the Great around 95 BCE.
