Zayn al-Din Karaja

d. 1353 · 14th century · Also known as Karaja Bey

Zayn al-Din Karaja was a Turkmen chief who founded the Dulkadirid beylik. In 1337 the Mamluk sultan recognised him as ruler of Elbistan and the uplands of the eastern Taurus, as a vassal guarding the Mamluk northern frontier. He later rebelled, was captured and was executed in Cairo in 1353, but his descendants ruled the beylik until 1522.
