Zoque
The Zoque are an Indigenous people of western Chiapas and neighbouring parts of Oaxaca and Tabasco in Mexico, speaking a language of the Mixe-Zoque family, which many scholars link to the ancient Olmecs. In the late fifteenth century the Zapotecs took part of their lands on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The eruption of the El Chichón volcano in 1982 devastated many Zoque communities.
