    Wareru proclaims himself king of Martaban as Pagan collapses

    Wareru, a Mon of humble origin, declared himself king of Martaban as the Pagan Kingdom collapsed, and Pagan, in its death throes, took no action. His kingdom, later called Hanthawaddy, ruled Lower Burma until 1539.
