Aden Emergency

1963–1967 · 20th century

The Aden Emergency was an insurgency against British rule in Aden and the Federation of South Arabia, lasting from 1963 to 1967. It began with the National Liberation Front's uprising in the Radfan mountains on 14 October 1963 and grew into urban guerrilla warfare in Aden, fought by the NLF and the rival FLOSY. Britain withdrew on 30 November 1967, handing power to the NLF, which proclaimed South Yemen's independence.
