Agoli-agbo

r. 1894–1900 · 19th century

Agoli-agbo was the last king of Dahomey, installed by the French in 1894 after the defeat and surrender of his brother Behanzin. He ruled a reduced kingdom around Abomey under French protection, without an army or foreign policy of its own. The French deposed and exiled him in 1900, and by 1904 Dahomey had been fully absorbed into French West Africa.
