Algeciras

Algeciras is a port city on the Bay of Gibraltar in the province of Cádiz, Spain. Founded by the Muslim conquerors in the 8th century as al-Jazira al-Khadra, it was the main crossing point to North Africa and the seat of a taifa in the 11th century. Alfonso XI of Castile took it in 1344 after a long siege, Muhammad V of Granada destroyed it in 1369, and it was refounded in the 18th century.
