Alzey

Alzey is a town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, in the hills of Rhenish Hesse south-west of Mainz. It grew around a Staufer castle and from the 13th century was a centre of power of the counts palatine of the Rhine, with a castle and administrative district. It is the main town of a wine-growing area and appears in the Nibelungenlied as the home of the minstrel Volker.
