Amadiya
Amadiya, or Amedi, is an ancient town in the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq, built on a flat-topped rock plateau rising sheer above a mountain valley near the Turkish border. From the late Middle Ages it was the capital of the Kurdish emirate of Bahdinan, known for its madrasas and Sunni scholars. Its old western gateway, the Bab Zebar, and a tall medieval minaret survive.
