Andrei Rublev was the most celebrated Russian icon painter of the Middle Ages, a monk associated with the Trinity Monastery of Sergius of Radonezh and the Andronikov Monastery in Moscow. He worked with Theophanes the Greek on the Annunciation Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin and painted frescoes in the Dormition Cathedral at Vladimir in 1408.
