Anglo-Manipur War

1891 · 19th century

The Anglo-Manipur War was a brief conflict in 1891 between the British Empire and the Kingdom of Manipur. After a palace coup by Tikendrajit Singh, a British attempt to arrest him led to the killing of the Chief Commissioner of Assam, James Quinton, and other officials at Imphal. British columns then occupied Manipur, Tikendrajit was hanged, and the state became a princely state under British control.
