Anthony Ulrich, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel

1633–1714 · 17th century · Also known as Anton Ulrich

Anthony Ulrich was Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, co-ruling with his brother from 1685 and alone from 1704. A rival of the Hanoverian Welfs, he was also a novelist, author of long courtly romances, and an art collector whose collections later formed the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum in Brunswick. He arranged his granddaughter's marriage to the future Emperor Charles VI and converted to Catholicism in 1710.
