Arabia Petraea
Arabia Petraea was a province of the Roman Empire formed in 106 CE when Trajan annexed the Nabataean kingdom. It covered southern Syria, Jordan, the Negev and the Sinai, with its capital at Bostra. A new road, the Via Nova Traiana, linked Bostra with the Red Sea at Aila. In the 4th century it was divided into smaller provinces.
