Artavasdes I of Media Atropatene

d. c. 20 BCE · 1st century BCE

Artavasdes I was king of Media Atropatene in north-western Iran in the first century BCE. Allied with Parthia, he helped defeat Mark Antony's campaign of 36 BCE, when Antony's siege train was destroyed and his siege of Phraaspa failed. Quarrelling with the Parthian king, he then allied with Antony, betrothing his daughter to Antony's son Alexander Helios, and later took refuge with Augustus.
