Battle of Adibo

1896 · 19th century

The Battle of Adibo was fought in 1896 near Yendi, in what is now northern Ghana, between German colonial forces advancing from Togo and the army of the Dagomba kingdom of Dagbon. The Germans, with modern rifles, defeated the Dagomba cavalry and then burned Yendi. In 1899 an Anglo-German agreement divided Dagbon between the Gold Coast and German Togoland.
