Battle of Brunanburh
The Battle of Brunanburh was fought in 937 between Æthelstan, king of the English, and an alliance of Olaf Guthfrithson, king of Dublin, Constantine II of Scotland and Owain of Strathclyde. Æthelstan's victory confirmed his rule over a united English kingdom and was celebrated in an Old English poem preserved in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. The site of the battle is unknown, though the Wirral is a leading candidate.
