Battle of Macomer

1478 · 15th century

The Battle of Macomer was fought on 19 May 1478 in central Sardinia between Leonardo Alagon, Marquis of Oristano, and the forces of the Aragonese viceroy. Alagon, the last great Sardinian feudal rebel, was defeated, captured and imprisoned in Spain until his death. His marquisate was confiscated by the crown, ending the last trace of independent power on the island.
