Leonardo Alagon

c. 1436–1494 · 15th century · Also known as Leonardo de Alagón

Leonardo Alagon was Marquis of Oristano, heir through his mother to the old Judicate of Arborea in Sardinia. Quarrelling with the Aragonese viceroy, he rose in revolt in the 1470s and won early successes, but was defeated at the Battle of Macomer in 1478. Captured, he spent the rest of his life imprisoned in the castle of Xàtiva in Spain, and his marquisate passed to the crown.
