Battle of Molodi

1572 · 16th century · Part of the Russo-Crimean Wars

The Battle of Molodi was fought in late July and early August 1572 near the village of Molodi, south of Moscow. A Russian army under Prince Mikhail Vorotynsky defeated the much larger army of the Crimean khan Devlet I Giray, which had burned Moscow the year before. The victory ended Crimean hopes of restoring Tatar overlordship over Muscovy.
