Battle of Samugarh

1658 · 17th century · Part of the Mughal war of succession (1657–1661)

The Battle of Samugarh was fought on 29 May 1658 near Agra between Dara Shikoh, heir of the ailing Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, and his brothers Aurangzeb and Murad Bakhsh. Aurangzeb's victory, in which Rao Chhatrasal of Bundi and many other Rajput allies of Dara were killed, decided the war of succession. Aurangzeb then occupied Agra, confined Shah Jahan and made himself emperor.
