Shah Jahan
Shah Jahan was the fifth Mughal emperor, ruling from 1628 to 1658. His reign marked the height of Mughal architecture, with the Taj Mahal at Agra, built for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, and the new capital of Shahjahanabad at Delhi. He annexed the Ahmadnagar Sultanate in 1636 and granted lands to Rajput lords such as those of Kota, Shahpura and Ratlam. His son Aurangzeb deposed him in 1658 and kept him confined at Agra until his death.
