Battle of Saraighat

1671 · 17th century · Part of the Ahom–Mughal conflicts

The Battle of Saraighat was fought in 1671 on the Brahmaputra near Guwahati between the Ahom kingdom and a Mughal army under Raja Ram Singh I of Amber. The Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, though ill, rallied his forces in a river battle that defeated the Mughal fleet and ended the Mughal attempt to recover Guwahati and western Assam.
