Battle of Tamarón

1037 · 11th century

The Battle of Tamarón was fought on 4 September 1037 near Tamarón, west of Burgos, between Bermudo III of León and his brother-in-law Ferdinand, count of Castile, aided by his brother García Sánchez III of Navarre. Bermudo was killed, ending the old Asturian-Leonese male line, and Ferdinand took the throne of León by right of his wife Sancha, becoming Ferdinand I.
