Battle of the Angrivarian Wall

16 CE · 1st century

The Battle of the Angrivarian Wall was fought in 16 CE between Roman legions under Germanicus and Germanic tribes led by Arminius of the Cherusci. According to Tacitus, the Germans held an earthwork built by the Angrivarii on their border with the Cherusci, but the Romans stormed it. Coming soon after the victory at Idistaviso, it ended Germanicus's campaigns, as Tiberius recalled him the following year.
