Blue Riband
The Blue Riband is an unofficial honour given to the passenger liner making the fastest regular crossing of the Atlantic. Held by British ships for much of the 19th century, it was won by Norddeutscher Lloyd's Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse in 1897 and by its liner Bremen in 1929. The contest drove rivalry between British, German, Italian and American shipping lines.
