Brennus (3rd century BCE)
Brennus was a Gallic leader who led the great Celtic invasion of Macedonia and Greece in 279 BCE. After forcing the pass at Thermopylae he attacked the sanctuary of Delphi, but was driven back by Aetolian and Phocian forces aided, according to legend, by storms and earthquakes sent by Apollo. Wounded in the retreat, he took his own life, and survivors of his army settled in the Balkans and Anatolia.
