Bull of Rieti

1234 · 13th century

The Bull of Rieti was a papal bull issued by Pope Gregory IX at Rieti on 3 August 1234. It took the lands that the Teutonic Order held and would conquer in Prussia into the ownership of the Holy See and granted them to the Order as a perpetual possession under papal protection. Together with the Golden Bull of Rimini, it underpinned the Order's rule in Prussia.
