Catholic League
The Catholic League was an alliance of Catholic states of the Holy Roman Empire formed in 1609, led by Bavaria, which fought on the imperial side in the Thirty Years' War. Its army under Tilly won major victories in the early phase of the war. At the Battle of Breitenfeld in 1631, Swedish and Saxon forces defeated a superior Catholic League army, a landmark for the Swedish Empire.
