Cayambi

Also known as Kayambi

The Cayambi, or Kayambi, are an indigenous people of the northern Ecuadorian highlands around the Cayambe volcano. Allied with the Caranqui, they resisted the Inca conquest for years in the late 15th century before Huayna Capac defeated them at Lake Yahuarcocha. Their descendants are Kichwa-speaking communities of Pichincha and Imbabura.
