Yahuarcocha
Lake Yahuarcocha is a lake near Ibarra in Imbabura province, northern Ecuador. Its name means 'lake of blood' in Quechua: tradition holds that the Inca ruler Huayna Capac massacred thousands of Caranqui and Cayambi warriors there in the late 15th century, staining its waters red. The victory completed the Inca conquest of northern Ecuador.
